Jedward - Bad Behaviour

June 30, 2011 Critic Jonni 0 Comments

Jedward has become well known in Europe, and their fan base has grown massively thanks to Euro vision (a music competition where countries submit acts to help win them the competition). Jedward backed Ireland in Euro vision, and manages to get top points from the UK, Denmark and Sweden. They ended up 8th, and did better than the UK.

I've known about Jedward for over 2 years now, they appeared on a talent show called "The X Factor" and that is where they gain popularity along with hatred from the general public. However they overcame that and after storming Europe they have a new release called: Bad Behaviour, which will definitely put them on the map, and hopefully get a number one somewhere in Europe. Which I can see happening with this amazingly catchy song.

This song is the 2nd single that will be taken from their new 2nd album. (The first single being "Lipstick", which they sang at Euro vision). This song is really catchy and even though I'm not overly happy about Jedward, this song has got me singing along none stop, so I had to put my thoughts on here and tell you what I made of it!

The song and the music video doesn't really relate to one another. The song is about going out with this girl, and after a while she realises he (or they) have got bad behaviour, and there's nothing they can do about it, and they're having fun, so what's the problem? And they do say that they told her about their bad behaviour from the beginning. On the other hand the music video is about their parents leaving Jedward by themselves, and instead of being good, they decide to be bad and have a party. Both of which are not at all similar. But if they get a hit with it, well done.

The very start is extremely cheesy, but what do you expect from twins who have blonde quiffs? Then when they are sliding around, and are in the shower (together? Hmmmmmm..... Wonder what they've been up to...) shows that they are free to do what they want, with their "parents" away, they don't have any rules. I wouldn't really class it as "Bad Behaviour" but it'll do.

The tweet is quite good especially the use of "Jepic", but then when Perez Hilton appears, it's quite annoying. But it could suggest that Jedward is attempting to release this worldwide, as America knows distinctly who Perez Hilton is, whereas I only know bits and pieces about him, but they could have cut him out and just included him when they release the music video elsewhere. But it's something I'm going to have to live with right? Also he says "I'm coming over", but he actually doesn't, they could have edited that bit out!

This song has an energetic "jumpy" feel to it, and definitely could be played in clubs (maybe at the time everyone is drunk and don't care what they are dancing to). There is choreography that is given to Jedward, and it would be a really good idea if they released this choreography to kids and others who will then know how to dance to the song. Although there is a lot of jumping about, so old people better be careful, we all know you're a fan of Jedward :)

The Tiger is so funny when he/she dances, I always at least crack a smile when I see him/her. The mini wrestler is a little disturbing, it has nothing to do with the song, and it's not even funny, he isn't dancing or anything :( The whale or dolphin or whatever it is, is really cute, I want it!

The ending is really good and clever, and although it has been done a million times, it's still good and also interest teenagers into the music video.

Overall, I LOVE the song, it's very catchy and can easily get stuck in your head, with no problem, but the music video should reflect the song, rather than just focusing on the chorus.

The Lonely Island Featuring Michael Bolton - Jack Sparrow

June 29, 2011 Critic Jonni 0 Comments

The Lonely Island are a three-piece band, who are a comedy music group. I had never heard of them, as they are not big hits in the UK, whereas in America and Australia their songs have had chart success. They have collaborated with many different artists from Justin Timberlake to Akon to Lady Gaga. This song features Michael Bolton, who has sung many different songs and reached limited success although he is well known. This song hasn't done well in the charts however the music video quickly became a YouTube phenomenon and currently have over 27 million hits. This is The Lonely Island's sixth single from their second album: "Turtleneck & Chain".

The song was written for a comedic effect. The Lonely Island raps about being in a club and talks about "not being Mr. Nice Guy". Whereas Michael Bolton sings about Captain Jack Sparrow (From Pirates of the Caribbean), there are other movie references within the song and its video. The rapping works well with the singing, as The Lonely Island tells Michael to focus, which implies that the music and the video was done there and then, however it wasn't since there is a big production team behind each of them, and they wouldn't allow this to be an off-chance, so it would have to be perfect. Which it is.

I can't help laughing every time I see this video, or hear the song. It is so funny as it suggests that The Lonely Island didn't have a clue what Michael Bolton was going to sing. I think this comedic effect is because of The Lonely Island, and I think it is to be expected from them, however don't quote me on that as I'm not confidently sure and this is the only video I've seen of them, since they are not big hits in the UK. Which is a shame as they are the perfect group to bring comedy into music.

I love the fact that Michael Bolton is dressed up in certain costumes, especially the Captain Jack Sparrow costume, that is hilarious, especially when he kisses the seagull. No matter however many times I watch this music video, it will always make me laugh, I just hope the music channels keep playing it for a while longer to hopefully pick up people's interest and hopefully get it in the UK chart, as it needs to get popularity.

I love this music video, and I can't fault it, well there are some references people will be surprised by, such as the references in the club made by The Lonely Island. Also it sounds like two totally different song have been mashed up together, which basically means that it doesn't work. But they are combined nicely with The Lonely Island telling Michael to focus. This is definitely a music video that will stay in my mind for a long time!

Alex Gaudino Featuring Kelly Rowland - What A Feeling

June 28, 2011 Critic Jonni 0 Comments

This song was written by Gaudino and Rowland, along with many other song writers, which suggests that this song represents a feeling of each of them. This is Alex Gaudino's song, he's a DJ (Disk Jokey) and can't sing to save his life (as fans of Radio 1's chart show knows). So he always has someone to sing the song. This is 2nd single off his new album "Magnificent". Which will probably smash the charts since his songs have done well in the UK chart. Since his a DJ his usic has a club/dance feel, that sort of music is really climbing up the charts, and it's mainly Europe releasing the big dance anthems of the summer. Which makes a change on the UK chart.

I have to admit, this video is pretty good, although it could be considered an average sort of video. The song is incredibly catchy, which allows the music video to be the way you would expect it to be. And even though it doesn't stand out it captures the essence of the song.

The song is about finding love when you aren't looking for it and how it makes people feel. The video shows Rowland being flirty with guys, and the dancing on stage and expressing te song in dance. We get some shots of Alex Gaudino which is always good, as some music videos tend not to show the DJ in his/her element. It clearly shows Gaudino at what he does, and suggests that he would be amazing at a club, the way he roots Rowland.

This music video is definitely average, but it is incredibly catchy and goes well with the song :) I don't think there's anything I don't like about this music video, maybe sometimes it could make people uncomfortable but then again there are orse music videos bein shown.

Rihanna - California King Bed

June 27, 2011 Critic Jonni 0 Comments

Rihanna, real name Robyn Rihanna Fenty, has quickly became a world-renouned artist. This song is her forth single release from her fifth album: "Loud".

The music video reflects the song. Which seems to be about being in a relationship, and feeling really far away from the person you love.

The music video has this GIANT bed, which is a direct link with the song, and it also shows that Rihanna is a good actress, as the song was not written by her, but maybe she can relate to it and therefore was able to show a really great music video.
The one thing that does annoy me about this video is that one piece of Rihanna's hair that is clearly in the wrong place. I reckon it was re-shot after she lay in the grass, but I just want to move it out of her way everytime I see this video. :)

I really like the guitar solos. I don't know why, but I've gained a thing for guitar solos, probably "Orianthi"'s influence, but who knows. I just think it relates perfectly with the song and suits it. Could this show a change in music with having more guitarists play solos in songs? I sure hope so.

This video has over 35 million views, and it definitely will get loads more the longer it stays in the chart. A lot of people likethis video, and also like the song especially as it Rihanna puts emotion into the song and shows her vocal ability off.

Rihanna has sung many different songs from R'n'B to dance/club anthems, she even featured on a song with Slash (from Guns 'n' Roses) so she can literally sing ANYTHING, it will be interesting to see what the next few years brings along :)
