I have literally had this song stuck in my head all day, along with 99 Souls' "The Girl Is Mine", inside my head this song fit perfectly with the lyrics of "The Girl Is Mine", and I think 99 Souls should mash it up to make an ultimate perfect song. It wasn't exactly this version of the song, it was Liberty X's version "Being Nobody", however I reckon I'll end up reviewing that in the future, and so I chose the original instead. Chaka Khan proves that nobody can sing this song better than her, and she doesn't even look like she is trying in this authentic performance based music video.
Rufus is the band in which Chaka Khan was the lead singer of, the band kickstarted her career. She left the band to concentrate on a solo career, however she was still contracted to the group. She returned to the band to record the final album. The band also consisted of, at the time of this release, Tony Maiden, Kevin Murphy, John "JR" Robinson, Bobby Watson and Dave "Hawk" Wolinski. The song was written by the latter.
The music video is mostly a performance based music video, where Chaka Khan proves how great of a singer she is. However she looks like her heart isn't into performing.
Surprisingly she is extremely relaxed, just going with the flow and singing as if she doesn't have a care in the world. Although she is an amazing singer, her performance fails to entertain.
The video also features a dancer, I was expecting some sort of narrative, however it never took off, and it was left with just some sultry dancing clips.
Overall this fails to entertain, it's too relaxed to keep the audience interested. This could've been so much better but there is no substance to it whatsoever. A brilliant song that is totally iconic, but a music video that doesn't impress.
Well this is the end of One Direction, FOR A YEAR or maybe a little more, but this is not the complete end. One Direction is not finished, they are just on hiatus, and we all know that their comeback will be one of the biggest things in music. They are taking a break from the group to do their own things, hell the video proves they deserve this, and what a brilliant last music video, for now, they will come back, I'm telling you that now! One Direction says their goodbyes in this video, for now, the band is not over, and they don't want their fans to be done with One Direction, and this video is a great representation of that.
One Direction are a four-piece boy band who hit global success after coming third on the seventh series of The X Factor. They are currently on hiatus, if you haven't already guessed, and apparently will come back in 2017. They consist of Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson. They originally had a fifth member, Zayn Malik, who pulled away from the group and has recently released his debut single. This song was written by Wayne Hector, John Ryan, Ed Drewett, Julian Bunetta, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson. The song is a fair well for now to their fans, in my opinion, and they promise to reform again.
The music video is amazing, directed by Cal Aurand and Fulwell 79, it contains clips of their journey so far. They look ever so young when they were first put together on The X Factor.
They are definitely the most successful act from The X Factor, despite coming third in the competition.
The video has a lot of clips of the boys, some surprising scenes that we've not seen before, or ones that are much older. I love the friendship between them all, typical brotherly love they all clearly have.
The performance side of the video is too similar to "Drag Me Down" for my liking even though the ending is extremely sad. However the ending was apparently cut too short as they rushed back together at the end, to signify that this isn't the end of the group, but if it wasn't shown then it's suggestive that this could well be the end for One Direction.
Overall, perfect video that looks back over their career and what they have done. They have included a few clips of Zayn Malik too, even though he has been hitting out lately about the group. He has become the Geri Halliwell of One Direction. I wonder where these boys will go next.
Continuing on from yesterday and looking at the songs that inspired the most recent hit song by 99 Souls' "The Girl Is Mine", I am watching the other music video to the mashup of the amazing song. This was combined with Destiny's Child's "Girl" to create an amazing song which had a brilliant music video too. Destiny's Child's music video to "Girl" also hit the mark, but how will this one shape up? I just love how these two songs got combined together and both are extremely unrecognisable in the 99 Souls' "The Girl Is Mine", it's pure brilliance! Brandy & Monica fight over a guy through verbal verses, who wins? Girls win, never fight for a guy, because he is not worth it if it means you have to compete against someone just as good as you are.
Brandy & Monica won a lot of awards for this song, as well as a grammy. They both have had successful careers, and are definitely established singers. Although they will need a massive hit to make it back on to the charts. Brandy Norwood agreed to allow 99 Souls to use this song, but had to rerecord the song for them, as Monica Brown refused to allow them to use her vocals. So in theory Brandy has had a hit again with this song thanks to 99 Souls' "The Girl Is Mine". Monica believes the song should remain in the past as it means so much to her, which is clearly understandable, however both songs used in the 99 Souls' song are unrecognisable, I cannot believe they're the same songs, and I also find it difficult to discern where the lyrics from this song and Destiny's Child's "Girl" has come from. The track has definitely put Brandy back on the charts, and she should jump on the bandwagon and release something to allow promote her music, if she wants to get back into the music industry. The song was written by LaShawn Daniels, Rodney Jerkins, Fred Jerkins III, Japhe Tejeda and Brandy Norwood. The song hit number two in the UK, just missing out on the top spot thanks to B*Witched's "C'est La Vie".
The music video was directed by Joseph Kahn. The video is fully narrative, with a relaxed performance piece that fails to invigorate me, these girls should be giving it everything they've got, I know R&B is meant to be relaxed, but this is sit down have a hot drink kind of relaxed, not The Boy Is Mine, girl! Hands off! kind of relaxed.
The start has Brandy watching Jerry Springer, but Monica wants to watch a film, and as Monica turns her channel on her TV, the frequency automatically changes Brandy's TV. This gets them both annoyed and they turn the TV's off just to sing.
They fight with their words, but there's no passion behind they're words, I feel they are just singing, even when they're acting with the guy. Who is played by Mekhi Phifer.
They are neighbours, which kind of reminds me of Aerosmith & Run DMC's "Walk This Way", as well as Girls Aloud & Sugababes cover video of the same song "Walk This Way". It has a similar rivalry vibe, however these totally outdo this music video.
The girls' heart just isn't in it, although they clearly enjoyed the ending, when they threw out his stuff at the same time, and they're telling each other that the boy is theirs. They then decide that he isn't worth it, that's pretty obvious by this point, and the guy comes back and finds out the girls know about each other, and they aren't happy with him... It isn't too different to Destiny's Child's "Girl", no wonder, these two songs just were meant to be paired together.
Overall, amazing song although I don't think it's quite that powerful. The music video just falls flat. I really would've loved the original talking bit in the song that can be heard in the actual version of the song. I am also not so keen on the camera angles, I do not get why the camera turns on it's side, it's distracting and draws away from the music video. However it's relatable and a great narrative.
After reviewing 99 Souls "The Girl Is Mine", a mashup of this song and Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine", I had to review these music videos to see the complete difference. To be honest, when I heard this song I was shocked, this is very different to the clubbed up mashup. It's extremely R&B which we are used to from Destiny's Child, however it is not as nearly as catchy as the mashup by 99 Souls, they clearly have done a good job. Destiny's Child meet up for a coffee, as they talk about Kelly Rowland's love life and how the guy she is with isn't worthy of her, she attempts to defend herself in a verse all to herself, but Beyoncé and Michelle is having none of it.
Destiny's Child consisted of, at this time, Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. All three have a successful solo career in their own right, and they all, most recently, collaborated on a Michelle Williams' song. This song was written by Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Patrick "9th Wonder" Douthit, Sean Garrett,. Angela Beyince, Don Davis and Eddie Robinson. The song was initially written by Beyoncé Knowles and Michelle Williams for Kelly Rowland as a request for her to end her abusive relationship. This proves how strong a friendship these girls had.
The music video, directed by Bryan Barber has two different elements. The first is the girls chilling in Beyoncé's apartment watching TV. They are watching a Sex And The City inspired video starring themselves.
The girls arrive for coffee and Beyoncé confronts Kelly Rowland about her sadness which is due to the relationship Kelly Rowland is in. We see intercut scenes that show her boyfriend coming home late and them arguing.
Michelle Williams actually gets a solo part and scene, in which she sees the boyfriend in a shop with another girl.
This is the calling card and Kelly Rowland decides to leave her boyfriend, but not before tying him up on the balcony with a pair of handcuffs wearing next to nothing.
Overall a perfect music video. I love how the girls react to the different scenes that are being shown on the TV, as if they are watching it themselves. It's a different viewing experience that adds to this entire video, surprisingly. Although I'm not so keen on the song, give me 99 Souls' "The Girl Is Mine" mashup any day, the music video is pretty much flawless.
It's my birthday today, and what a way to start it off, finding a whole new duo that is currently exciting me, and being able to promote them as my New Release this week. I have not been this excited for a duo song since Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello collaborated on "I Know What You Did Last Summer". The Girl and The Dreamcatcher proves that Disney isn't who they are when it comes to their music. Catchy and meaningful, this duo is one to watch out for, with a spooky video to boot.
The Girl and The Dreamcatcher is currently my favourite duo. They have everything we want out of Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's "I Know What You Did Last Summer", yet them two probably won't be collaborating again, whereas this duo is an official group. I'm fully excited to see where their journey will take them, hopefully many brilliant songs like this one, an amazing album, and a global hit, because they definitely deserve recognition. The duo consists of The Girl, who is Dove Cameron, and The Dreamcatcher, who is Ryan McCartan. Dove Cameron is known for playing twins Liv and Maddie in a Disney show of the same name, Ryan McCartan also stars in the show as Diggie. Disney is hitting these stars here, there and everywhere, and hopefully these two will follow the footsteps of Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato. Their first single was "Written In The Stars", and this song is their follow-up single. They also released two Christmas singles last year. Keep you're eyes open for these two, I'm calling it, they will be the next big stars, if not this year, it'll definitely happen next year. They just need more recognition.
The music video is pure brilliance, filled with Pretty Little Liars vibes as well as Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's "I Know What You Did Last Summer", the video pretty much starts with us all thinking it's going to be an amazing cover version. However the song is totally different.
A full narrative and performance piece, Dove Cameron visits the grave of Ryan McCartan, and drops a rose, which falls into his grave. His grave consists of a stage and I can just imagine him singing all day long to other dead people. Can I be buried in that graveyard in the future please? I want to hear his voice all day long, every day; but Dove Cameron has to be eventually buried there too so we can hear her amazing voice too, their harmonies are better than perfection.
The video continues and Dove Cameron envisions Ryan McCartan wherever she goes, she imagines him wherever she goes. It's his ghost or spirit coming back, wanting to see her, dance with her and obviously sing with her again.
The choreography scene is magical, The Girl and The Dreamcatcher shows us exactly what they've got, these two can dance, no doubt about that, and they prove themselves as credible dancers and singers as their emotion flows perfectly, I really would like to see these two live, it would be a show I wouldn't want to miss.
Overall a perfect song that has Eurovision vibes to it, can't we get them to represent the UK in this year's Eurovision? Especially since duos seem to do well in the competition, and this song is exactly what is doing well in the contest recently. The video is on point, perfect and although gives vibes of other things we may have watched, it doesn't matter, everything is a copy of everything no matter which way we look at things. Nothing's completely original even if we originally come up with the idea, with no inspiration. I can't wait to see where this group will go. The future is more than bright for these two.
