Miley Cyrus - Fly On The Wall

Miley Cyrus, real name Destiny Cyrus, has appeared on my blog quite a few times. This time my iTunes decided to get it stuck in my head, and it sure managed to do that. This song is probably one of my favourite songs from Miley Cyrus, and I'm interested in what she has in store for us in the future, clearly it's going to be big, but can she get higher up the UK Chart?

"Fly On The Wall" was written by Miley Cyrus, Antonina Armato, Tim James and Devrim Karaoglu. Many different interpretations of the song has been made, from sympathy to the boyfriend, to the boyfriend wanting to know everything. Miley Cyrus soon enough cleared it all up, saying it was about the paparazzi... And the music video empathises that perfectly.

This music video shocked me over and over again, from the start to near to the end, and then the completely surprising ending. This video really reflects what it is like to be followed by the paparazzi. Britney Spears has been portraying her concerns for ages now in the videos for "Everytime", "Piece Of Me", "If U Seek Amy", "Hold It Against Me" and "I Wanna Go", I'm sure there's probably more. Other music videos include: Stone Sour's "Through Glass", Kelly Clarkson's "Mr. Know It All" and Cher Lloyd's "Swagger Jagger".

And although this song came out it hasn't stopped anything, and it's only getting worse, only a few months ago, Miley Cyrus posted a video of her walking her dogs while one of the paparazzi parked in a handicapped place and ran in front of her taking pictures (video can be found on the right).

Once again we have a narrative and a performance piece. First off we think her boyfriend is going to turn into a werewolf with the full moon being out and stuff. Instead he turns into one of the paparazzi. She then ends up in the car park and is being chased everywhere she goes.

The best bit has to be when the paparazzi start to dance, I can't help but laugh as I'll always remember the first time I saw this and I really wasn't expecting it, and it still manages to draw me into that surprise every time. And then we get the more shocking ending, where her boyfriend sells her story about the paparazzi. That's just wrong on so many levels.

There's a bit of a performance side in the car park, which she lets lose and has a little bit of fun. I reckon she really enjoyed filming this music video, and in doing so, it's just as fun to watch.

Overall a great song that only managed to get to number 16 on the UK chart, it clearly deserves a higher position. The music video is pure brilliance, and definitely one of my favourites. It has a close theme to Michael Jackson's "Thriller". So you can all guess what my rating is going to be...

Miley Cyrus - Who Owns My Heart

Miley Cyrus, real name Destiny Cyrus, has been featured on this blog many of times. She has a big fan base, and has recently gone sexy to improve her image and to prove that she is not this innocent young girl we all thought she was. The change is very reminiscent of Britney Spears' change with "I'm A Slave For You" and Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty". Controversy sparked with this album, but she's set in the right direction, and she is not an innocent girl. She also cut her hair off within the last year. It is now short and blonde. I still haven't made up my mind if I like it, but who cares? As long as she likes it, everything is good. She is currently getting ready to release a new album this year (hopefully).

"Who Owns My Heart" was her second single from her most recent album 'Can't Be Tamed'. It was written by Miley Cyrus, Antonina Armato, Tim James and Devrim Karaoglu. The song is about club vibes and whether or not you actually like the person you are dancing with. It is the sort of song that clubs would've picked up, however it failed to chart in the UK, this could be for many reasons, but I would put it down to next to no promotion, whereas her other singles got quite a bit.

This music video is sexy, it's the only word that comes to mind, and you can't really blame me, because that is what it is. She's waking from a bed wearing not much, then gets ready to go out clubbing and ends up back in the bed.

It shows a new completely different side to her, but it does in fact show who she really is. She's 20 years old, and you really think she's one of these people who sit alone in their room talking to friends? Nope, she's out on the town and hitting it hard just like me, and all the other 20 year olds (yes, me and Miley Cyrus are the same age).

Overall a catchy club song that should've done well in the UK. The accompanying music video fits perfectly and is a true representation of who she is, why should we ask anything less? I don't see much of a narrative and so I knocked off one star, but apart from that how can I rate it less than it deserves?

Christina Aguilera Featuring Redman - Dirrty

Christina Aguilera gets my Sunday revisit. This is definitely the music video everyone links with Christina Aguilera and it will be described below as to why. She has come a long way since this video and it definitely changed the perceptions people had on her. Most recently Miley Cyrus has released a similar music video that also came to controversy. She has recently came back to the music industry with an amazing new song called "Your Body" and I cannot wait to see what the future brings. Will there be a new number one soon? Or will she be like Britney Spears, always trying to get to the top spot, and having those songs that deserves to be there, but just doesn't get there. She has collaborated with Redman, real name Reginald Noble, who was a big American rapper in the late 90's, early 00's but who never released in the UK, or just didn't chart. He has been trying to return to music for a while, will he become as big as he used to be or will he just disappear with the rest of them?

"Dirrty" was written by Christina Aguilera, Rockwilder, Balewa Muhammad, Redman and Jasper Cameron. It is unsurprising that Christina Aguilera helped to write the song, and she has definitely managed to do exactly what she wanted to do. The songwriters used "Let's Get Dirty (I Can't Get In Da Club)" by Redman as a template and it definitely works.

The music video hit controversy as Christina Aguilera wanted to change her direction dramatically. From her previous videos we had seen her as cute, young, delicate and dainty. It's not how she wanted to be perceived and usually the only way to push it aside is to go the total opposite and that is exactly what she has done. In later years it has been praised, especially by Miley Cyrus, who has done something similar with the music video for "Can't Be Tamed", which sparked controversy as young girls had been watching Hannah Montana, in which she plays a cute dainty girl, and Miley believed that isn't her and so she became the opposite.

The video has a BIG choreographed dance scene, I love these, at the end of the day you can't beat Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera's dancing, they are great dancers and it shows in all their music videos (please remember these artists are actually friends and there is only rivalry thanks to the media).

Although this video is dingy grungy and DIRRTY, it's different to what we expected from Christina Aguilera, and it made all her future videos different, and I just can't dislike this video. I was young when it first came out and didn't actually watch it, as far as I remember. Although I do remember seeing clips, I think it was on Top Of The Pops, and I think my parents turned it over because of it's content.

Overall this music video has a lot going on and very little at the same time. The song is catchy and definitely worthy of that number one in the UK. It changed the future of all Christina Aguilera music videos, and I'm sure Miley Cyrus' future music videos will be different too. I've actually found this music video the most hardest to review, and I'm glad all I have to do is give it a rating. I dropped one star because I don't think there is a lot to the narrative, but that all.

Miley Cyrus - The Climb

Miley Cyrus, real name Destiny Cyrus, has been having a break from music lately, but she is currently back in the studio and ready to release more material. This song has been stuck in my head all day thanks to a Facebook application called SongPop. She is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus. She has released a number of songs and have featured in a number of films. She is well-known for playing Hannah Montana. She has charted a few times on the UK chart, her highest chart number is 11 in which 3 of her singles have managed to peak at but she has never beaten it just yet. The singles are: "See You Again", "The Climb" and "Party In The U.S.A."

"The Climb" was written by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe. It was originally called "It's The Climb" and was given to a number of country artists who turned it down, it was finally given to the Hannah Montana director who asked them to change some of the lyrics so it fits in with the film, and that is exactly what it does.

This music video works great, it is a soundtrack music video, but they've included the movie scenes cleverly. This song is a ballad, and as all great ballads, music videos aren't that great. However this one is different to what we expect.

I like how she walks down the road, but I think there should be a mountain as it would link in more with the song. Overall it's a great song with a great music video, however I don't think there is enough going on for me to comment on, I also feel that there is quite a lot missing, that could have made this music video so much better.

Miley Cyrus - Party In The U.S.A.

Miley Cyrus is the daughter of Billy Rae Cyrus, her real name is Destiny Cyrus, but she was always smiling as a child and her parents nicknamed her smiley, so therefore she chose Miley Cyrus as her star name. This song charted at number 11 (one of three of Miley Cyrus' songs to get to that chart position, which is her highest charting position to date, the other two singles are "See You Again" and "The Climb"). Apparently, Miley Cyrus is ready to work on her next album, which is surprising since after her most recent album she released reports that she wanted to focus on her film career rather than music. But maybe she's come across inspiration to guide her back to music.

The song was written by Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly and Jessica Cornish (now known as Jessie J). These three are really well known, Dr. Luke has been mentioned on my blog more times than I can remember. Claude Kelly is a new person to my blog, but he has written songs for a number of X factor finalists and other well known British performers. Jessica Cornish (or should I say Jessie J) is a UK artist, who is getting high chart positions here in the UK and elsewhere. The song is about having a party and just having fun, dancing to the tune the DJ is playing and just enjoying it any way you can.

The music video is WOW. I love it and it reminds me of what I think America is like, I can just imagine it being this way, and it's understandable why this song was such a hit, because the song was aimed at teenagers. The video relates perfectly with the song and the editing was done really good.

I like her cowboy boots, and how the song references stilettos and how she must have missed the memo. It perceives her as a misfit, and that she is still enjoying the party the way she wants to. I like the USA flag behind her, it reminds me of "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera. I also like how the song mentions Britney and Jay-Z. And suggests Miley Cyrus likes to party. Which is understandable for an 19 year old girl.

I really like the reference to Grease. Miley wanted to pay tribute to one of her favourite films and also her parents courting days. The grease reverence is the bit where John Travolta sings "Sandy", he walks over to a jungle gym, where he sits on a swing while projections goes on behind him. This is similar to what happens in Miley's video, except she's standing on the swing. For her parents courting days, they included a Drive-In Theatre, which they called Corral Drive-In, as that is similar to the Kentucky Drive-In, Miley's parents had their first date.

Overall, this is a great music video, to go with a great song. The video is simple but inspirational at the same time, and it could have been on of the reasons for why the song charted so high. I'm going to drop a star because there isn't much going on, it could have been bigger and better, but it works perfectly and I don't think it ought to be changed.

Jennifer Lopez - Papi

A lot of people have been talking about this video lately, so I thought I had no choice but to write this review, since it is quite impressive and really good. Jennifer Lopez, or J Lo depending on which name you prefer, is a world wide star, she is an actress and singer amongst other things, and this video really does show her acting skills off amazingly. She has released lots of singles and albums, and this single is taken from her seventh studio album, however she has yet to release a greatest hits album, which is quite surprising, as I don't think any artist has released more than 7 albums without releasing a collection album.

This song is really good and very catchy, I can definitely see a lot of DJ's remixing this song for the clubs, and I really hope it'll be another number 1 for her as I can definitely see that happening with this song here in the UK. The song is about being with someone and expressing that, however I don't understand this bit "Dance for your papi", if it's all about being with someone then why do you want to dance for your dad? That doesn't make any sense to me, because the translation from the Spanish word "papi" means "dad" in English, so that's the only bit I don't understand. I still like the meaning of the song and the catchy beat behind it.

Now the music video is definitely top class, I like how the song has been used, turned upside down and inside out and some great person thought up this amazing idea for the music video, and I am shocked that this was even thought of. I have to admit, I forced myself not to watch it on YouTube when I heard everyone talking about it, because I thought it would spoil the effect, so I kept using the music channels and it came on, I was so happy and I was surprised because this music video is definitely one I can watch again and again. People have mentioned that it is similar to an advert and people have mistaken it for an advert without actually realising.

There are a few continuity errors, such as at the very start. Clearly that cookie is magic because it disappears straight out of her hand, when the camera is looking at "Lisa". Also people have noticed that when J Lo's dancing, her shoes automatically changes so that she's wearing dancing shoes, however I totally understand why they've done it, because J Lo is generally quite small, and so she is seen wearing platform heels which makes her roughly average height, however could she seriously dance in those shoes? So they definitely edited and filmed this perfectly.

I love the story line of this. Her "Papi", as she calls him, is the guy she's going out with and she's waiting for his return from army. She talks about him to Lisa, who is the mail attendant, and Lisa offers her a cookie which claims to bring her love back, Lisa tells her to take a small bite, however the cookie breaks and J Lo ends up taking a big bite. The next day every single guy she walks past has a spell put on him, and they end up running after her, trying to give her a rose, or a bag, or even a puppy. She gains the interest of many people, from a horseman, to a motorcyclist, to a gardener and many others. I love the guy who she hits with the car, because he ends up on the bonnet (or hood, if you live in America), of her car, and through the front window he does a "rock on" sign with his hand and mouths "I love you", and then she puts the brakes on and he goes flying. I also like it when she gets out the car and she's being passed around and prevented from escaping. When she shouts "STOP", everyone stops and then it goes into a choreographed dance scene, where she dances with all her love interests. At the end her "Papi" comes to save her, he's dressed in uniform, so he obviously just came back. Then the video finishes with J Lo saying "The craziest thing happened," trying to tell him about her day. The ending reminds me of Miley Cyrus' "Fly on the Wall" as it is quite similar.

Overall I really like the song and it's music video, I bet you tonnes of people want to find this "Lisa" persona and take a "small bite" of the cookie, including me. I really like the concept of the video, only I'm surprised she only realises when she gets into the car, did she not hear that car crash behind her and the window breaking and the many fights that are just behind her? Anyway, I think this video certainly deserves this rating, and I hope you all agree with it.
