Mike Posner - Looks Like Sex

Looks Like Sex - Mike Posner |

Thought I was stuck this week for my Thursday Revisit, trust me to have already written about all of Alexandra Stan's music videos which are five years older or more. Luckily, for me, Mike Posner was the feature on Nick Jonas' "Remember I Told You" alongside Anne-Marie; so, I picked him for my Thursday Revisit this week. This song didn't chart well globally, and it's understandable since this song isn't all that memorable, and the black and white music video isn't anything special. Watch Mike Posner perform his song whilst women dance sexily as lights flash on and off throughout this music video for "Looks Like Sex".

Mike Posner is one of these artists that have a big massive hit, then isn't heard from for a few years, and then makes a total comeback with one song, and goes away again. This is the story of Mike Posner's life and it definitely has a lot of ups and downs. He's most notable for "Cooler Than Me" and "I Took A Pill In Ibiza". This was his fourth single to be released, and it charted well in Belgium, managing to reach the top five in both of their official charts. The song was written by Mike Posner and Mason Levy.

Directed by Jason Beattie, the music video is shot purely in black and white, apart from the occasional scene that contains a bit of colour that is more on the faded side than anything else.

It's a pure performance visual which Mike Posner does an okay job of pulling off, but he doesn't exactly engage the audience and gets outshined throughout by the women in the video.

On the costumes are some parts that light up, this looks so good and makes me wish I had those clothes; however, it doesn't save the video and fails to keep our attention.

Overall, I wasn't expecting much, not going to lie; but, I still expected something better than this. It doesn't go anywhere and isn't all that memorable throughout. Mike Posner has done so much better when it comes to music videos.

Nick Jonas Featuring Anne-Marie & Mike Posner - Remember I Told You

Remember I Told You (feat. Anne-Marie & Mike Posner) - Nick Jonas

When I heard that Nick Jonas had collaborated with Anne-Marie, I just knew it would be a match made in heaven; add Mike Posner to the mix and we not only do we have an incredible song, but we also have a fun music video that is easily memorable. The song is one of my favourites by a male artist that is out at the moment, and Nick Jonas sounds amazing on the track throughout; the song has also had some killer remixes and I hope there are more to come. Watch Nick Jonas, Anne-Marie, and Mike Posner perform in a box-like room, mainly having fun throughout, in the music video for "Remember I Told You".

Nick Jonas first hit the music scene as one-third of the Jonas Brothers who have now split as they pursue solo projects. He has seriously become one of the leading male singers around at the moment, fully bringing amazing songs that suit his voice perfectly. His latest album "Last Year Was Complicated" is one I still haven't got over yet, and I'm shocked it didn't receive better international success. Collaborating with Anne-Marie, full name Anne-Marie Nicholson, definitely excited us all. I have followed her career since her first few songs, and I claimed that she would be one to watch, and she just proved me right in every way. There will definitely be more hits from her in the future. As for Mike Posner, he's forever being an international chart success and then you don't hear much from him before he brings out another hit single, this is what makes him a good person to connect with. This track has all the right stars, all the right lyrics, and all the right energy to be a brilliant song; and, that is exactly what it is, but it has underperformed on charts around the world, more so than you could possibly imagine. It peaked at number 97 on the UK charts - which is beyond unfair. It'll just have to become one of my treasures, like so many others. The song was written by Nick Jonas and Mike Posner.

Directed by Isaac Rentz, this music video is completely basic; yet, looked so much fun. All three artists perform in this box-like room where the camera stays in one position as it looks into the room. The colour filter is played with, originally starting off in black and white, and ending in colour; for reasons unknown to us all.

Throughout, the clips are segmented between Nick Jonas alone in the room, and Nick Jonas with a bunch of female models. As the song builds, Anne-Marie and Mike Posner appears out of nowhere and performs alongside Nick Jonas.

Overall, it's not all that appealing to the audience watching it. There are no wow moments, and there is mainly a focus on having fun and a good time, which has next to nothing to do with the song itself. I don't find this enjoyable to watch at all, and even though it does have a lot of fun involved, it's not enough to save it.

Maroon 5 - Sugar

This was another music video me and my brother's girlfriend chatted about the other night... Such a simple idea, yet next to impossible to pull off, but Maroon 5 managed to do it. This is one of those music videos that will always be inspirational and different, it stands out on any music channel, and works completely, even if it does seem far-fetched. Maroon 5 crash as many weddings as possible in one day, performing for the happy couples in this video for Sugar.

Maroon 5 are a six-piece band consisting of Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden, James Valentine, Matt Flynn and PJ Morton. They were originally called Kara's Flowers. Their career as Maroon 5 started off well, everyone was talking about them, but they soon dropped in popularity and it wasn't until Adam Levine appeared as a coach on The Voice and collaborated with fellow coach from the show, Christina Aguilera, on "Moves Like Jagger" that they were back in the spotlight, releasing hit after hit. This song is the third single to be taken from the aptly named fifth album 'V'. It hit the UK chart at number seven and was written by Mike Posner, Adam Levine, Joshua Coleman, Lukasz Gottwald, Jacob Kasher Hindlin and Henry Walter. It was planned to be released by Mike Posner for his 'Pages' album which got cancelled. Maroon 5 wanted it so he gave it to them, he is a fan of the changes the band made to the song.

The video was directed by David Dobkin, who is probably mostly known for directing 'Wedding Crashers', the Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughan film. He has directed and been a part of many other films, some well-known films include 'Fred Claus', 'Mr. Woodcock' and 'Jack The Giant Slayer'. The video has a similar feel to the 'Wedding Crashers' film, and is still getting questioned on whether it was staged or not. Regardless, it's still incredible.

This video is a similar style as Katy Perry's "Birthday", it's definitely reminiscent of that music video. I like how it's in real time and the shocked faces are pretty much real, it's next to impossible to stage everything completely, and even if it is completely staged, it's some amazing acting.

The idea behind the video is to crash as many weddings as they can, apparently the groom is the only one in on it, but they were only told it was a famous band, not who they were. There's a whole lot of technicalities that could and did go wrong, but this is what makes an amazing music video.

My only problem overall is the sexualised content of the lyrics. Even though Katy Perry's "Birthday" is also sexualised, that song relates perfectly with the music video... This one just doesn't relate to the video. It's not like the lyrics has anything to do with weddings, but I guess they couldn't crash people making love, so a wedding was the next best thing right?

Overall, entertaining, shocking and filled with so much love. Congratulations on every couple that got married that day and had MAROON 5 crash their wedding. I'd have them crash my wedding any day of my life.

Chart Mondays: Mike Posner - I Took A Pill In Ibiza (SeeB Remix)

Mike Posner has done it, he has knocked Lukas Graham off the top spot with this amazingly catchy song. Whoever said you can't make a good comeback was wrong. Mike Posner's biggest hit used to be "Cooler Than Me", but guess he becomes the cool one since he has hit number one in the UK with this song and he has made it a global hit. Mike Posner doesn't appear in his music video, although the actor plays out his story, which is definitely stretching the truth, although it seems real enough, you can imagine this happening, but that massive head would knock a few people out in a club.

Mike Posner is only really known in the UK for his previous hit "Cooler Than Me", although his writing credits are substantial, and some may remember him featuring on the UK version of Cher Lloyd's "With Ur Love". Now he's back with another big hit, but will his follow-up singles follow in this one's footsteps or will they under perform again until he brings out another standalone hit? Time will tell as it always does. This song was written by Mike Posner, Martin Terefe and SeeB. The song came about after Mike Posner took a pill in Ibiza while at an Avicii concert.

The music video, directed by Jon Jon Augustavo. It's very scary, especially if you switched over halfway through on a music channel.

It kind of reminds me of the early 00's music videos when these sort of weird videos were all the range. I like the idea of the pill blowing his head up, although I wish they had used animation to literally blow his head up.

It sort of suggests that taking pills/drugs are a good thing. He becomes more confident, more drunk, more girls are interested hell he manages to pull and has sex in a toilet cubicle; there isn't enough emphasis of the ending and how drugs and pills are bad for you.

Pills and drugs are not good! NPS legal highs are to be banned in the UK in April. There's argues for and against them, and most don't know enough about them to make valid concrete opinions on them, whatever your feelings on them, they are there and you always have to be careful, as with anything you accept from a stranger.

Overall the video fails to show the risks of taking pills, and instead reflects on how much of a good time you could have by taking them. Behind the scenes you can tell that he isn't living the life, especially when he takes the pill, it doesn't change his life, it blows his head up and it's not as great as he thinks it is. It sticks to the story of the song and relates to it, although I do think it gives a slightly wrong message out to young people.

Justin Bieber - Boyfriend

Justin Bieber has finally appeared on my blog, there was absolutely nothing on the music channels today, and this music video was the only one I took an interest to. Then all the music videos after this one I had already previously reviewed. I'm not much of a fan of Justin Bieber, although I do commemorate him for being a great singer, and managing to sell a lot of records. He has never had a number one in the UK before, however this is his highest charting position to date, charting at number two. He is currently going out with Selena Gomez, and has been for over a year.

"Boyfriend" was written by Mike Posner, Justin Bieber, Matthew Musto and Mason Levy. I'm surprised to see another singer's name pop up in the writing credits, which is Mike Posner, he sang "Cooler Than Me". Could Justin Bieber have written this for Selena Gomez? It is definitely one of those songs you expect Justin Timberlake to sing, and it's extremely different to what is actually about at the moment, sometimes that is a good thing, when others it's not so good, but with the Justin Bieber's fans (aka Bieber Fever), it looks like he can never release a bad song, and even if he did, it'll still do well on the charts no matter what.

This music video seems extremely short. It finished, and I was like, is that it? However it's over 3 minutes long, which is the amount of time most music videos are. So was I so intently watching it that time passed me by so quickly? Or was I expecting something better?

They could have done a lot with this music video, it could have been a narrative storyline, there could be a lot more choreography... However they decided to make it subtly sexy, or try to at least, but I don't think it's paid off, we're left with wanting something more. The double start is a little on the infuriating side, as the singing really stand out from his rapping, therefore choreography could have been built in. So we have to wait a whole minute until he starts to sing, which would normally be okay, but in the video not much is happening.

Before the video was released, there was camera shots released online, showing Justin Bieber near flames, and under water and various other scenes that other critics had commented on. Some were excited about the video and others were saying it could be a little on the erotic side which wouldn't be good for his fan base. Before the release of this music video, it got scrapped and this one was filmed and released. Could it be possible that they were not too happy with the feedback from the previous video? What ever happened to taking a chance? No wonder this video seems simplistic and restrained. Personally, by the looks of the shots and the thoughts of other critics, I think I would have preferred the previous music video.

Overall it's an average music video, not much going on, and it leaves you wanting more, there's a few choreography scenes interspersed throughout but not enough, I wanted to see additional dancing scenes. However it's quite a catchy song, so I understand why it got to number two.

New Release: Cher Lloyd Featuring Mike Posner - With Ur Love

Cher Lloyd performed on the X Factor yesterday, to try and promote this song, which is released this week. She came fourth on the X factor last year and her first single "Swagger Jagger" managed to get to number one. This time around she has collaborated with Mike Posner, who's a big hit in his own country, America, at the moment. So could this be the song that pushes Cher Lloyd into American stardom before her own X Factor mentor, Cheryl Cole, does it? She performed this song amazingly on the X Factor, and I'm pretty sure it'll be number one this Sunday, but with the competition of Professor Green Featuring Emeli Sandé, Rihanna Featuring Calvin Harris and Labrinth Featuring Tinie Tempah all trying to get number one, this clearly would be quite a battle for the top spot.

This song was written by Savan Kotecha, Max Martin and Shellback, an unstoppable force in my opinion. Once again all three have come together and created yet another song, I bet we'll be seeing more writing credits by these three in the future. Now the fact that Cher Lloyd and Mike Posner never even wrote any of the lyrics is a little disappointing, but sometimes this is where the big hits come from, if Britney manage to do it every single time, then surely everyone else can. I like the fact that Cher Lloyd doesn't rap at all, she is good at rapping, but sometimes you need a song like this to make the "haters" realise she can actually sing. She will be a megastar if she hits America just right.

The music video has a lot of links, and it's nice to see that. But what has she done to her hair? Seriously she changes every few days, In this music video she pulls off the half-shaved look, and it does suit her, however yesterday on the X Factor she had her hair looking a little like Cheryl Cole's, so it makes you question whether she has found her niche in the world. Does she change her hair often as she is still unsure of herself, and doesn't quite know where she belongs? This could be both a good thing and a bad thing; good thing: she may grab the attention of various people from young to old with her various looks; bad thing: she could be influencing little kids to beg their parents into having a hair cut like Cher Lloyd's, and once they go for the half-shaved look, she has her hair normal again, this could possibly upset that kid.

There is a major thing missing in this music video..... The song's about love, so where's the "heart hands"? As I've mentioned in previous posts, "heart hands" are very in at the moment, but can look cheesy if not done correctly. Whether she did do a clip of "heart hands" and it looked wrong so they cut it out, I don't know, but it is definitely something that should have been put in.

I like the balloons, there's quite a few of them, and there is a little bit of repetition of footage, but you hardly notice it. Mike Posner looks like he's trying to look like MC Hammer, which is a definite no-no this day and age. But it is a great collaboration and I wish Cher Lloyd can crack America.

Overall the song is really catchy, as to be expected from these writers, and the music video coincides nicely with the song, it's definitely a step up from "Swagger Jagger" although I do like both songs. It's just missing "Heart Hands"!
