Jonas Brothers - Paranoid

I've never been sure what to think of the Jonas Brothers, in some ways their songs are really good, and then they release a song that makes me want to forget all about them, sometimes I like them and then sometimes I don't, and to be honest, I don't think there is another artist out there that makes me feel this way. So... They are currently on hiatus as they pursue different projects, could this help them build up more of a fan base? Or could it just make it worse? Time will tell. The Jonas Brothers currently consist of Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas. At the moment Joe Jonas is going solo (one of his music videos I have already reviewed), Nick Jonas is in a totally different band called "Nick Jonas and the Administration" (which I have grown to really like lately, it's just a shame they haven't been doing well with their chart positions). And Kevin Jonas is currently doing........... Nothing. No solo project about, no new band, just a marriage, and nothing else... Maybe he's waiting for the hiatus to end?

This song is called Paranoid, and is one of the most recent Jonas Brothers' song to appear on the UK singles chart. The Brothers wrote this song with Cathy Dennis and John Fields. Obviously the song is about being "Paranoid" but also not knowing where you fit into this world, and being unsure where you should take your next step because you fear the unknown. I'm not entirely sure how these thoughts ended up in the brothers' heads but you can tell that the lyrics come straight from them because they sing this song really well. It's pretty difficult to make a music video around these song lyrics, but I think they've done a good job and made it funny at the same time.

I really like this music video, I'm not much of a fan of the song, it becomes boring after a few repeats, but the music video is good. I like how Kevin ends up being in a room full of himself, he is a little out-of-this-world anyway and so this represents him perfectly. I'm not sure what the connection is with Joe's wrestling scenes, maybe he wanted to be a wrestler at one point? Or maybe he fears being put into that sort of situation. Anyhow, I like Nick's part where he tries to outrun the other car, and I always like the door bit and how he doesn't smash.

I especially like the end and I don't think I'll ever understand anyone who doesn't like this music video. I like how it represents the song and although it looks a little cheap, it works well. This music video stands out from their other ones as this one has a lot more going on and it has more of a storyline.

Overall, the song is now getting a little boring, but the music video is really good. No matter what I think of the brothers, it doesn't matter, as I really like the scenes and I could watch it again and again (maybe without the song). As I have mentioned many times before, my rating is based on the music video alone, and so the song has nothing to do with it, so I hope you all agree with me.

Evanescence - What You Want

Evanescence is one of my favourite rock bands of all time, amongst that list is also Paramore, Hey Monday, Checking Pulse, Evarose and many more that I can't think off the top of my head. They are the band that first introduced me to rock music, so I've got a lot to thank them for. Evanescence cracked the UK with their first single "Bring Me To Life" and managed to get a number 1 in 2003 with it. Their album subsequently followed, also gaining number 1 status. However they have dropped and dropped, with that number 1 top spot getting further and further away. They have been on hiatus since 2007 and they are finally back, and we've all missed them. This is their first single in 4 years and although it hasn't set the singles chart alight, it sure has made the top spot on the UK rock chart, making Evanescence the artist with the most number one UK rock singles for 2011. This song sadly got to number 72 on the singles chart, which is currently their lowest chart position to date, however they have to do better for their album and new single, because that is how it goes here in the UK. So I'm expecting good things and I can't wait for the album.

Evanescence have recently changed members since their hiatus. The band now currently consists of Amy Lee, Terry Balsamo, Tim McCord, Troy McLawhorn and Will Hunt. And they have a new album out (that gets released here in the UK next week), and I'm really hoping it performs a lot better than what this single did. However if the tracks are similar to this song, then I can't wait to listen to it. It'll definitely be a CD you want in your collection. I just hope that everyone else decides to buy it as they definitely deserve a high chart position.

This song proves that waiting for them to make their return was well worth the wait, they are back and with full force. Amy Lee's voice is so strong and powerful that every single word is very meaningful and I bet they are amazing live. It was written by Amy, Tim and Terry, and so it makes it personal to the band (note: most rock bands do tend to write their own songs, which is why rock songs are usually so big and meaningful, because of the emotion behind the words). Amy Lee announced that this song goes out to the band's fans. It's heavy and in your face kind of song, and it's totally new for the band, and shows the potential the band has. The meaning of the song is is about her relationship with her fans, and the realization that "this is what I'm supposed to do". I especially like the use of "Hello? Hello? Remember me" it suggests their comeback and shows that the band hasn't broken up, and that they will be here for a long time (hopefully). The song is about freedom and "do what you what you want" (That's my favourite bit of the song, the way it's sung makes this song one of the ultimate catchy songs ever written).

The music video is amazing, it shows what the band is like live which is always a good thing, but it also has a narrative storyline which is the best mixture of the two. The band is performing in "Vino's Bar in Arkansas" which is where they used to perform before the band became big, it suggests the old them and it shows that it is still a big part of their lives. This band is a band I haven't seen live yet, but I really want to, they're impressive and it looks like it would be a fun gig. They have shown a lot of live footage during their past music videos, and many rock bands do this in their music videos, sometimes it works and other times it doesn't, but Evanescence look like the perfect band to see live, they are having fun on stage and that is blasted across to the many people who are in the crowd, so I am eager to see them live.

The narrative side of the music video is very interesting, a lot of critics have said that it is similar to "Bring Me To Life" but I don't think it is, I think it has similar scenes because both songs are very powerful, however I don't think they're the same at all. The music video is set in New York, and shows Amy walking and running through various places in Brooklyn, such as a train station, the streets and the Brooklyn Bridge. She starts running along the Brooklyn Bridge during the bridge of the song, and then she jumps and lands perfectly on her feet on the other side. The last few scenes are of the band, they are all walking towards the water united in a triangle. They are heading into the water, suggesting that they are ready to send waves to the world with their new music.

I love this music video it has everything an Evanescence fan needs, it is so good that I've already played it five times, surely a few more times won't matter. I like how Amy is now happy where she is, she's mentioned that singing is what she was born to do and that it she is now doing "what you what you want". And I think it is really nice of the band to give us this first record and to commemorate their fans who's stuck by them through their hiatus.

Overall, without being biased whatsoever, this music video is amazing and it's so nice to see Evanescence back and being as strong as than ever. I can't wait to hear more music by them, and I just know that any fans they may have lost during their hiatus, will all come crawling back, as this band's comeback will be one of this year's biggest events. I hope you all agree with my rating, and now this song is seriously stuck in my head.

Diana Vickers - My Wicked Heart

Diana Vickers came fourth on the fifth series of The X Factor here in the UK. There has been a number of contestants that made the finals who have gone on to release singles and albums, so far there has been: Alexandra Burke (winner), JLS (second), Eoghan Quigg (third), Diana Vickers (fourth), Ruth Lorenzo (fifth), Rachel Hylton (sixth) Daniel Evans (seventh), Laura White (eighth) and Bad Lashes (twelfth). This is Diana Vickers third single, and she has yet to release an accompanying album, which is currently in the works, since she recently split with her record company. She is a big hit in Europe, and I can definitely see her go global in the next few years, so watch out for her, as she'll be storming the charts everywhere pretty soon.

This song got a lot of controversy, the main reason for it is that her quirky voice is difficult to understand when such an up-tempo big hit like this song is released. You can't understand what she's singing, and I bet a lot of people who like the song have gone on and looked up the song lyrics because otherwise you wouldn't be sure if you're singing them right. Another Controversy came along thanks to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers who said that Diana Vickers copied their song "Under The Bridge", and maybe she did and the lyrics are just different, but that song is definitely amazing and at the end of the day if you look closely a lot of songs sound the same, so what's the point in comparing them? This song was written by Diana Vickers, Dee Adam and James Earp. I really like it when an artist has written a song as it means something to them so you can feel the emotion come off them a lot more. The song is about the flutter of her heart when she's fallen for someone. This links in with the other songs she has released and it definitely puts her down as this person who likes to be in love. Also there was a lot of rumours while this series of X Factor was on that she and Eoghan Quigg were together but now she's going out with One Night Only's front man George Craig, could this song be about him? Or someone else?

The music video is definitely low budget, but it is done very well, maybe they spent the money on extras? It is definitely big and that's why I like it, however, I see no connection with the song, but who really cares about that when you have this really good song and a pretty good music video? It's just a shame that it doesn't contain anything to do with the lyrics, and what the hell has a circus show got to do with her heart beating out of time for a guy?

I like the light works and the shadows that are cast, it makes it mysterious but also fun at the same time and it gives it this interesting spark. The circus troupe is good and makes it look like it's not a low budget music video. There's very little going on, and some bits look like they were repeated now and again.

Overall I love the song, her quirky voice is definitely something I really like, however I don't see any connection between the song and it's music video, and so my rating has to be fair, and as much as I like Diana Vickers, you kind of expect a much better music video. I sure hope her next ones are much better than this one.

Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight

Today, I've been wondering which music video to review, this song got stuck into my head when I realised that Jennifer Lopez actually sung this song. Now even though this is probably one of her signature songs, I never linked her with this song, I don't know why but every time I heard it I just didn't think it was J Lo, so when I was writing my review for "Papi" and noticed this song being in her discography I was surprised. This song is one of those songs that get stuck in your head as soon as you hear it and although it never got to number one, it goes down a classic and marks the change in the music industry, as it is one of the many songs that helped to push out the cheesy-pop music.

This song was originally sung by a group called "3rd Party" who I have never even heard of, therefore making this version a cover version. However Jennifer Lopez sings it so well, you would expect it to be her own song. It was written by Maria Christiansen, Michael Garvin, and Phil Temple, Maria being the lead singer of 3rd Party. The song is about finding the right person to be with, her one true love, and this night has brought them together. It's a really nice meaning, and I like the fact that everyone's got this one true love in this world, and as soon as you find them, that is it, you know this person is the one for you.

There's a lot of potential to create a brilliant narrative story, however they went with the usual dance/club music videos which are still going today, but what makes this one different is what they have done with it, they they have made a storyline and connected it to the lyrics. Which is what makes this music video stand out from the crowd.

They have flipped the song lyrics upside down and inside out and created this really clever music video. I presume back in 2000 all the clubs would have been playing this song and so it goes to show that they have decided to celebrate in style with the upcoming millennium. I like this idea because a lot of people had probably made plans for it and had been waiting for that night. But this wasn't just any new year, this was the mark of the 2nd century and I reckon all the clubs ended up with a lot more queues than usual. I was really young back then so I wouldn't have known. Me and my family celebrated it with party poppers and various other celebratory surprises.

I like the fact that they also included the Y2K problem, and it really works within the music video. It was difficult to make software to convert the year to 2000 because back then we used to use the 2 digit numbers (e.g. in 1998 we would abbreviate it to '98) however they can't change it to '00 as it doesn't work, so instead they needed to change all the systems so that it said 2000, which caused a lot of problems. I like the fact that they managed to use it in the music video, and this is definitely what makes it stand out.

Jennifer Lopez, doesn't look much older in her newer videos, and although more than 10 years have passed , you wouldn't even be able to guess. I still cannot believe she is 42 as she looks at least late 20's early 30's. She has yet to have released a greatest hits album, but I bet it's on the cards, and this song would definitely make the list.

Overall I really like some of the effects in this music video, and although there is a little bit of a narrative storyline that doesn't link in with the song, they've made the song mean something else, which is extremely difficult to do. The song is very catchy and will probably be stuck in my head for the rest of today. So I hope you all agree with my rating, as it definitely deserves it.

Starman - I Don't Wanna Dance

I've been getting quite a lot of hits on my music video review of "Ola - All Over The World" because Ola Svensson and Andrew Stone look so similar that people easily mistake one for the other. So today I decided to look to see if Andrew Stone had previously released any music videos. So after a bit of searching I come across this band called Starman, and Andrew Stone is the lead singer. Personally I think their songs are 15 years too late, or maybe even more as this song would have been a hit in the 90s, however now it doesn't stand a chance, which kind of explains why the band is no longer together. This band consists of 5 members, who are Andrew Stone, Jesus Ruiz, Craig Custance, Mickey Cowdroy and Luka Cadez.

This song doesn't make much sense to me, I think it's about being in love with someone but the magic is dying, and that dancing is what brings it all back. Although there may be more hidden meanings even further back than that. The song contains one of the most iconic Abba piano tunes, and every time the bridge comes up I do question whether or not this song has any connection and if it is or isn't closely linked. "I don't wanna dance if I got dance" is very contradicting and that's why I think they don't like to dance when they're told to and much prefer when they do it on their own free will because they enjoy it. Andrew Stone does have a good voice, and although it is not strong enough here (and yes it is a lot stronger now as I found out when he appeared on "Sing if you Can"), but it definitely sounds similar to Ola's and could be easily mistaken for it. I'm not upset that this band has split, it might help Andrew Stone go into more dance music and I know he'll be a big hit in Europe, he could be our answer to Ola, but we'll just have to wait and see what's around the corner.

This music video is by far the most different, unrelated video I have reviewed so far, and I don't think there is any other video out there that could be as worse as this. It's obvious it's a low budget video, and it is only related here and there, but surely they could have incorporated a choreography scene in it since it's about dancing. I think the narrative storyline was about these 5 people (who are the band Starman) who are put in body bags to give life-force to this robot. It's just over the top and unrelated to the song, it doesn't make any sense.

The use of the body bags explains the first verse: "And I can't breathe" & "Should I lay down on my bed?", however that verse is barely noticeable and so why take that part to make this whole music video? I don't know why they've done it but it is completely absurd don't you think? Also the lasers has nothing to do with the song, and maybe that's where all their budget went to. And the robot..... What were they thinking? The person in that robot costume doesn't make robot moves any good, sorry whoever is in that costume, but it's true.

Overall, after watching the video like three times, I end up liking this song a little more than I thought I'd ever will. But the music video is so different and unrelated, however it would've fit perfectly in the 90s, and if Andrew Stone wants to crack the UK market I so think he should take a leap out of his double's career: Ola Svensson. I think Andrew Stone has a good voice, he just needs to make good music and then he'll do a hell of a lot better.
